Bonso Electronics International, Inc. designs, develops, produces, and sells electronic sensor-based and wireless products for private label original equipment manufacturers, original brand manufacturers, and original design manufacturers. The company offers sensor-based scale products that include bathroom, kitchen, office, jewelry, laboratory, postal, and industrial scales, which are used in consumer, commercial, and industrial applications; and wireless telecommunications products comprising two-way radios and cordless telephones that are used in consumer and commercial applications.

It also engages in the development and manufacture of tooling and molding for scales and telecommunication products. In addition, the company involves in the distribution and marketing of pocket scales in the United States, Canada, and Europe; and distribution and marketing of electronic and mechanical body and kitchen scales directly to the retail and catalogue markets in Europe.

Bonso Electronics International also operates in Canada and China, a well as in various other European countries and Asian countries. Bonso Electronics International, Inc., formerly known as Golden Virtue Limited was founded in 1988 and is based in Shatin, Hong Kong. Over twenty years ago, Bonso Electronics Limited was established with the vision of building the world's largest manufacturer of electronics weighing scales and balances.

This goal could only be achieved through the development of products that make use of the latest electronic technology, yet offer ease of use and affordability to the ever-demanding consumer. The trend of innovative product development at Bonso started when it manufactured one of the world’s first electronic bathroom scales that make use of sophisticated strain gauge load cell technology. The impact of this product gave Bonso instant recognition in the scale & balance industry. Since then, Bonso has established strategic OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) partnerships with an impressive list of companies specializing in a wide range of scale products.

In recent years, through the adoption of full vertical integration of its production and marketing facilities, Bonso has successfully been transformed from a typical OEM company to an international corporation with both ODM (Original Design Manufacturer) and OBM (Original Brand Manufacturer) business. This vertical integration has been further strengthened by the acquisition of Korona Haushaltswaren GmbH & Co. KG, (www.korona-waagen.de) of Germany in 2001 and of Gram Precision Inc. (www.gramprecision.com) of Canada in 2002.

With their present direction in product development and expansion of their distribution network, Bonso Electronics Limited is well on its way to fulfilling the goal that it set twenty years ago, as it makes its mark in the new millennium. Bonso's headquarters is located in Hong Kong while the production is centered at their 600,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Shenzen, China. This facility was completed in 1998, employs around 3,000 workers, and the ongoing extension of one further manufacturing plants and two worker dormitories will complete in 2004.
